It Will Shock You: See What ASUU said About Jamb Admission Policy

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has faulted and dispraise the new admission regulation proposed by the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) stating that the new policy lacks certain admission basics.

The autonomy body of Universities maintained that the latter named examination body is going beyond its borders in admission processes. ASSU however stated that it is the duty of any institution to set out its own admission modalities that best suit its mission and vision.

Speaking through the Chairman University of Ibadan (UI) chapter, Dr. Deji Omole, the body however lamented that the JAMB is only looking for ways to deny many Nigerians of the opportunity of being in school, ignite corruption and promote examination malpractice.

He described both the Education Minister, Adamu Adamu and JAMB registrar, Prof Dibu Ojerinde as confuse humans who are indecisive citing the policy of paying a fee for screening charges which is almost similar to the purchase of Post UTME forms. He advised that Jamb should look for feasible ways to ensure qualitative exams standard rating the last concluded UME as a low standard examination.

The ASUU boss added that the question of admission is not about the introduction of screening charges, noting that the Union will resist any attempt to trample upon university autonomy and the supremacy of the Senate of universities to regulate its admission.

It should be noted that the new scoring system for the basics for admission is not new. It was first introduced by University of Ibadan and abandoned after seeing that the system was not substantial and it fails to meet the requirement of the 21stcentury University
