Another busy day in the pool

The medal events come fast and furious in the pool on 8 August. Beginning 10:21pm local time, the men are off in the 200m freestyle. China's Yang Sun raced the fastest time in the heats. His performance of 1:44.63 puts him in the fast lane flanked by Japan's Kosuke Hagino and the USA's Conor Dwyer. Next up are two 100m backstroke events, beginning with the women's and then the men's final.

In the women's race, Hungary's Katinka Houssz will look to add a second gold medal to her Olympic
Haul. The 'Iron Lady' recorded the second-fastest time in the heats. Her time of 58.94 was just a touch behind Kathleen Baker of the USA who qualified with the fastest time of 58.84.  Those three events are followed by the women's 100m breaststroke at 10:54pm. US swimmer Lilly King qualified with the fastest time.

Daley looks to win another medal for Great Britain

Tom Daley, who won bronze for Great Britain at the London 2012 Games, will compete alongside 19-year-old Daniel Goodfellow in the men's synchronised 10m platform final. They will face challenges from, among others, Chen Aisen and Lin Yue of China and Brazil’s Jackson Rondinelli and Hugo Parisi.

Two medals will be awarded to judokas at Carioca Arena 2 on Monday. On Sunday, history was made when Majlinda Kelmendi won gold for Kosovo, the first time anyone has won a medal for that country.

Brazil looks for first team gymnastics medal
For the first time ever, Brazil will take part in a team artistic gymnastics final. On Monday, at 4pm, Diego Hypolito, Francisco Barreto Júnior, Sérgio Sassaki, Arthur Zanetti and Arthur Mariano will compete in the  men's team artistic gymnastics final, taking on gymnasts from the USA, Russia, Great Britain, China, Ukraine, Germany and Japan.

The USA looked strong in preliminaries but are wary of being overconfident aftet they dominated the preliminaries at the London 2012 Games only to finish in fifth place. They will face a strong Chinese team that won gold at the 2012 Games.

USA basketball ready to roll

Both the USA men’s and women’s basketball team look to continue their dominance on the hardwood. The men’s side, fresh off a dominant 119-62 win over China, will take on Venezuela. Kevin Durant led the USA with 25 points. The women’s team were equally dominant, easily beating Senegal 121-56. They take on Group B rivals Spain at noon.
