Three players Liverpool could use to replace Mahmoud Dahoud

Mahmoud Dahoud

Wednesday morning saw Borussia Dortmund announce the signing of Mahmoud Dahoud from Monchengladbach on a four-year deal which came as a blow to Liverpool fans.

Naby Keita – RB Leipzig

Few players have been more of a breath of fresh air in the Bundesliga in recent years than Naby Keita. The 22-year-old has been the driving force behind RB Leipzig’s journey from newly-promoted side to Champions League contenders. Keita is the second-most creative player at the club this season and boasts six assists and four goals to his name already. Add to this a surprising 55% take-ons success rate and a knack of making boatloads of interceptions as well as impressive technique – you’ve got yourselves a very special player.
Liverpool fans can take heart from the fact Keita shares the same agent as Sadio Mane – undoubtedly the Reds’ breakthrough player this term.
Wylan Cyprien – OGC Nice

Nice have only lost one Ligue 1 game all season, to Monaco. If you were to ask the fans which player is the chief reason behind that record, almost all would point to 22-year-old Wylan Cyprien. Cyprien has been a joy to watch – completing 89% of his passes with 61% going forward and being the second-most creative player at the club. Only Thiago Motta has completed more passes in Ligue 1 this season – in a much more generous formation for a midfielder of his ilk.
There is a huge question mark on whether Cyprien is ready to make the step up to the Premier League but he ticks every box that Jurgen Klopp, and Liverpool fans will be looking for in a midfielder.

Corentin Tolisso – Olympique Lyonnais

A more versatile option – Tolisso is part of the frankly bonkers array of young French talent that is emerging across Europe’s top five leagues An all-round midfielder, Tolisso is good on the ball (84% pass success rate), strong in the air (47 headed duels won this season) and boasts as many Ligue 1 goals as Nabil Fekir this term. There’s little he can’t do in the centre of the park. Also 22, Tolisso boasts added versatility thanks to his ability to drop-in at right-back – something which will undoubtedly draw comparisons with the dependable James Milner.
